Back in Paraguay

I arrived back in Paraguay last Thursday (28th January) after a smooth journey. (Thanks for your prayers.) I even got taken to the front of the airline queues as I am considered to be a senior citizen. I suppose getting older has some advantages.
Mags Southern and Gwen Carlisle fetched me from the airport and also took me shopping, by which time I was well and truly shattered, so they fed me too. It is great to have good friends.
I arrived home to find my flat redecorated. It looks lovely but I had to do a lot of unpacking as I had boxed everything ready for the painters to have free reign.
It was so good to get back into the sun after such freezing temperatures in the UK. It was 44C here on Saturday.
It is always good to be in Paraguay, especially when there is no electricity. I had an afternoon camped out with Mags and Gwen yesterday as my leccy went off and the flat was very hot. Fortunately power was restored before my freezer contents thawed out.
I am now resting and recouperating for a couple of days before we return to work on Thursday.
(What happened to summer holidays??!! They must be a figment of my imagination.)

I have been catching up on the Paraguayan news. Fidel Zavala was released and the police have one of his kidnappers in custody. They are currently looking for others involved and for members of the Paraguayan people's Army.
However, news and causes move on rapidly in Paraguay and this weeks main news was of a national footballer, Salvador Cabanas who was shot between the eyes, in a bar in Mexico. A prayer meeting was called for him in a large football stadium. Thousands attended and the result is that Cabanas has regained consciousness and has asked for asado (barbecued meat). The bullet cannot be removed so I do not know what the future holds. To come this far is something of a miracle.
